Will Not the Judge of All the Earth Do Right?

“Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

There are days when I look at the injustice in this world and my heart cries out, “How long, O Lord?”

We see innocent people suffering. We see human beings committing acts of unspeakable cruelty against other human beings. We see murder, abuse, corruption, exploitation, persecution, and the shedding of innocent blood. Sometimes those responsible are caught and punished. Sometimes they are not. Sometimes powerful people seem to escape justice altogether.

But I have one great comfort: nothing is hidden from the sight of God.

You may hide something from your family. You may hide it from the police. You may deceive a jury, manipulate evidence, buy influence, intimidate witnesses, or convince the world that you are innocent.

But you cannot deceive God. You cannot bribe Him. You cannot intimidate Him. You cannot hide from Him.

Hebrews 4:13 declares:

“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”

That should comfort the righteous—and terrify the wicked.

God Sees More Than the Crime

An earthly judge can only consider the evidence placed before the court. God sees everything.

He saw what happened when nobody else was watching. He heard the conversation behind the closed door. He saw the innocent blood that was shed. He knows who planned it, who participated in it, who covered it up, and who profited from it.

And even beyond that, God judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart. We judge what people do. God knows why they did it.

Romans 2:16 speaks of the day when “God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ.”

Think about that. The secrets. There is coming a day when there will be no more secrets—no hidden rooms, no buried evidence, no carefully constructed lies, no public relations campaigns, no political influence, no wealthy benefactors, no powerful connections. Just the creature standing before the Creator.

Every One of Us Will Give an Account

This truth does not apply only to murderers, dictators, traffickers, abusers, and those we consider especially wicked. It applies to me. And it applies to you.

Second Corinthians 5:10 tells us:

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”

Every one of us will give an account.

That is why the Gospel is such extraordinarily good news! Jesus Christ came into this world to save sinners. He carried our sin to the cross. He shed His blood so that guilty men and women could repent, be forgiven, and become new creations.

But grace is not permission to continue in wickedness. Grace calls us to repentance. And repentance means turning.

God Is Patient—but His Patience Is Not Approval

Sometimes we mistake God’s patience for indifference. We see wicked people prosper and wonder, “God, why aren’t You doing something?”

But Scripture tells us that God is patient because He desires people to come to repentance. His delay is mercy. But mercy has a deadline.

There is coming a day when repentance will no longer be an option, because judgment will have arrived.

Paul told the people of Athens that God “has set a day when He will judge the world with justice by the man He has appointed.” That Man is Jesus Christ. The Jesus who came the first time as the Lamb of God is coming again as King and Judge.

That is something our generation desperately needs to understand. We love to talk about Jesus the Savior—and He is! We love to talk about Jesus the Healer—and He is! We love to talk about Jesus the Good Shepherd—and He is! But He is also the righteous Judge.

Revelation 19 describes His return with breathtaking words:

“With justice He judges and wages war.”

The One who was mocked will reign. The One who was beaten will reign. The One who wore the crown of thorns will wear the crown of the King. And the One who stood before human judges will one day judge humanity.

Vengeance Belongs to God

This is why I do not have to live consumed with vengeance.

God says:

“It is Mine to avenge; I will repay.”

That doesn’t mean we ignore evil. It doesn’t mean governments shouldn’t prosecute criminals or that victims shouldn’t seek justice. Scripture recognizes the legitimate role of earthly authorities in restraining and punishing wrongdoing. But ultimately, vengeance belongs to God.

I don’t have to carry it. I don’t have to let hatred eat me alive. I don’t have to spend my life demanding that every wrong against me be repaid.

God saw it. Those three words can bring tremendous freedom.

When you were mistreated—God saw it. When you were betrayed—God saw it. When someone lied about you—God saw it. When someone harmed the innocent and appeared to get away with it—God saw it.

And His books are accurate.

The Judge of All the Earth Will Do Right

Abraham asked one of the most profound questions in Scripture:

“Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

Yes! A thousand times, yes!

There will be no wrongful convictions in God’s courtroom. There will be no corrupt judges. There will be no technicalities that allow evil to escape. There will be no evidence withheld from the court, because God already knows everything.

His judgment will be absolutely righteous because His character is absolutely righteous.

And that leaves every sinner with a choice: repent, or eventually face the consequences of sin. That includes every one of us.

The same Jesus who will judge the world is presently extending His nail-scarred hands in mercy. What an incredible God! He warns before He judges. He calls before He condemns. He offers mercy before wrath. He offers forgiveness to the guilty because He Himself paid the price.

So when I see terrible evil in this world, I remind myself: God sees. God knows. God remembers. And God will judge.

No one gets away with anything forever.

Therefore, I don’t have to become bitter. I don’t have to surrender to hatred. I don’t have to wonder whether righteousness ultimately matters. It does.

There is a throne above every earthly throne. There is a Judge above every earthly judge. And there is a court from which there is no appeal.

My prayer is that those committing wickedness would fall on their knees now, while mercy is still being offered. May they repent, turn to Jesus Christ, and receive the forgiveness that only His blood can provide. Because if they refuse His mercy, they will eventually face His judgment. And when that day comes, every mouth will be silenced before the perfect justice of Almighty God.

Until then, when evil seems to triumph and injustice appears to prevail, I will hold tightly to Abraham’s question and its unmistakable answer:

“Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

Yes. He will.
