Why is the church filled with false converts?
For years many pulpits have preached that getting into the Kingdom of God is easy, when Jesus said the exact opposite.
We tell people, “Just ask Jesus into your heart,” when that phrase is nowhere found in Scripture. The Bible speaks of repentance toward God. The Bible says, “Without holiness no man shall see the Lord.”
When David stole another man’s wife, committed adultery, and then had the man killed, what did Nathan the prophet say to him?
Did he say, “David, God’s got a wonderful plan for your life”?
No.
Nathan confronted his sin. He told David a story about a rich man who stole a poor man’s lamb. When David heard it, anger rose up in him and he declared, “That man deserves to die and must restore fourfold!”
Then Nathan looked at him and said, “You are that man. Why have you despised the commandment of the Lord?”
And David cried out, “I have sinned against God.”
THEN came the gospel.THEN came mercy.THEN came the “nevertheless.”
Nathan said, “You shall not die. The Lord has put away your sin.”
The message of the church must begin with repentance.
We must turn away from living for ourselves. We must crucify the flesh. We must lay down our weapons and surrender fully to King Jesus.
The tragedy today is that many sincerely believe they are Christians simply because they said a prayer, walked an aisle, or were baptized — yet they still live for themselves instead of for Christ.
Jesus did not call us merely to make a decision. He called us to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him.
